SKINNY BLUE

The Skinny Blue collective has a line-up of producers, dj's, graphic designers, vj's and software programmers and have been involved in producing cutting-edge electronica and visuals for the past 5 years in Newcastle.

With the release of a CD / DVD in June this year, the group's approach achieved an even closer fusion of Audio Visual technology which is unique in the north-east. The 11 track CD featured the collective's usual blend of breaks and beats crossing a range of styles and bpms. This was accompanied by a DVD which was a mixture of new visual material drawing from original-source DV & animation, public domain archive footage and CGI manipulation using the collective's own software programming.

The group have been running their own A / V nights across the north east featuring live work-outs from the members of the collective. The Lumen set will feature the original Skinny Blue dj and  vjCaCi with a unique approach to narrative AV. The ‘narrat:av’ set is based on documentary footage if local artists with sound and visuals based on ideas generated by the interviews.

vjCaCi has been a key member of the collective since her debut set at the launch of ‘Drumlin, Esker and Erratic Bloc’ at Popolo’s in 2003 and is fast gaining a reputation as one of the leading female vj’s in the region. A founder member of the Digital Womens Network, CaCi splits her time between live projects and support for up and coming young female vj’s in the region. Caci’s eclectic style has become central to the Skinny Blue look and feel and her approach generated interest among the Narrative Lab vj’s at AVIT earlier this year. In addition to her work on a new Skinny Blue project, CaCi plans to take ‘narrat:av’ to AVIT North America in Vancouver in 2006.

Next up for the crew is a project fully expanding the interactive element of their set which will allow the audience to control elements of the material seen on-screen and will be premiered during the AV festival in Newcastle in March 2006.
