About Lumen

The aim of Lumen is to present the art of live visual, audio visual and DJ based performance to a wider public audience. Predominently the preserve of clubs or small AV audiences, Lumen places the focus in public environment free to all thanks to support provided by Newcastle City Council. Corporate sponsorship is provided by Imperial Tobacco.

Lumen also allows the artists performing to test cutting technology brand including the Pioneer DVJ X1's and the Korg Kaoss Pad Entrancer. The Pioneer DVJ's are basically DVD players - DJ style. The kaoss pad is a box of tricks that lets you manipulate audio as usual with the standard Kaoss Pad but the entrancer also applies this technique to video content! The touch pad is intuitive to use and adds another element to the performance. It also presents the audience with an easy to grasp illustration of what performing "live visuals" entails.

Within the bar for each Lumen event are ethereal projection screens presenting the performers content on the main stage area and DJ, music producers and AV performers.

Lumen set-up
The set-up for presenting the visuals is typically a pair of Mac Powerbooks running Modul8 software (www.gargaecube.com) , one or two Pioneer DVJ's, Edirol V4 mixer, Korg Cross 4 mixer and the Korg Entracer effects unit. Guest Vj's and musicians also bring their own equipment - Lumen is generally a great place to see the latest in VJ and music technology being showcased.
